Harness human skills to build future-ready teams

WHY READ THIS

Discover three essential skills for team success in collaborating with AI.

IN BRIEF
It’s clear that AI and automation are causing organisations to rethink how they work. To succeed in the future, it’s vital that teams understand the strengths of AI and seek to align their own strengths by fostering creativity, effective communication, and empathy.

THE THREE SKILLS

  • Creativity is a vital skill to not only identify potential AI uses but also to be able to use the tool itself. Being able to input a prompt that an algorithm can understand requires both analytical thinking and creativity. Further, creativity is also required when using AI to build graphics, as you need to consider your idea from multiple angles in a trial-and-error process until you achieve the desired result.

  • Communication. High-performance teams rely on effective communication for collaborative tasks. AI can help with crafting communications, but it can only do so much. It can help accelerate the process, but important conversations still need to take place in person as influence is a human-driven skill. Being able to connect and relate to others is foundational for influence, which can be achieved most impactfully by sharing experiences.

  • Empathy is often difficult to quantify but is known to offer significant organisational benefits in the form of improved efficiency, innovation, employee satisfaction, and revenue. It’s even more important during times of change. Exercising empathy is more about taking another person’s perspective so that you see things through their lens, rather than just imagining yourself in their position. Perspective-thinking can also unlock our imaginative abilities and shift people out of existing thought patterns.

THE BOTTOM LINE
The above three skills create a base of ‘power’ skills that will likely be crucial for future success. Building a culture around these skills will strengthen the individual contributions of team members and improve their ability to adapt to new technologies.
